Why does WA Police Pipe Band need friends?

Logistical & financial support

The Band has a modest operating budget which allows it to fulfil its core functions. The Band is however committed to always trying to reach more of the public of Western Australia and must raise its own funds to do this - particularly to cover the costs associated with travel. In short, additional funding enables the band to travel more widely than is possible with departmental funding alone. Direct support to the band through subscriptions to the 'Friends of the Band' programme or through other 'one-off' donations is one way of providing support, and volunteering time and assistance to band projects is another.

To fund the increasing player base - guest players

The Band operates with a small compliment of band officers who are paid to perform 50% band duties and 50% other police duties. To enable the band to meet its obligations, guest players are also included on the playing roster. Funding from the Friends Of The Band programme enables a greater number of more highly skilled players to perform with The Band.

Becoming a Friend of the Band ensures a prestigious association with the world renowned WA Police Pipe Band. Members enjoy exclusive benefits and opportunities to meet with band members informally throughout the year as well as seeing and hearing The Band perform on various occasions.
