Brett Bale
Officer in Charge/Drum Major
Sergeant Brett Bale is our newly appointed Officer In Charge
and Drum Major of the Western Australia Police Pipe Band.
Brett has done a turn around so to speak by coming back to
where he started. Brett started in Pipe Bands at the age of
10 years, following the footsteps of his mother & father.
Brett played side drum with a few bands, like City of Fremantle
Pipe Band, Gunn Tartan Pipe Band and City of South Perth Pipe
Band (as it was known at the time).
Brett was advanced taught by Tony Copeland who was the Drum
Sergeant of the Police Pipe Band for many years. It was then
later in his teens, Brett decided he wanted to play on a more
professional basis and joined the Western Australia Police
Force as a Cadet at 16 years. Brett immediately started at
the Auxiliary Squad (which was the name given to the Band
members in the early days) and served there until it was time
he had to go through the Police Academy at 19 years. After
12 weeks of training, Brett immediately returned to the Band
as a Constable and played in a very successful Drum Corps
for many years. Brett has competed and winning several trophies
in Open Division of Pipe Band Drumming in Australia.
It was a time for Brett to advance his career in the Police
Force and was transferred out of the Band. Brett has served
in numerous positions over the years, having served in the
Country and Metropolitan areas, gaining management expertise
and being appointed as a Senior Prosecutor, Supervisor of
Intelligence & Telephone Interception, a Member of the
Parole Board of Western Australia and acting Inspector in
State Intelligence Division.
Just to foot note that Brett’s father, Fred Bale was
the initial drumming instructor in the Bands infancy.
Brett is very pleased to return to the Band to take up the
challenge and serve the people of Western Australia at its
best.
As Brett said; “It’s in your blood”
