Dougary
Piper
Craig comes from Fife in Scotland and started learning
the pipes at the age of 11, albeit not knowingly. Tom Brown,
PM of Lochgelly High School Pipe Band, had come to Craig's
primary school and asked if anyone wanted to learn the chanter,
which Craig agreed to do - with no idea it actually led to
playing the bagpipes! He was fortunate enough to be involved
in a very successful era with the high school band competing
in the Juvenile grade, during which time they went undefeated
for 2 years and were the first ever band to win 10 "Majors"
in a row including World, British, Scottish, European and
Cowal championships.
At the age of 16 he moved from the high school band to the
grade 1 band Dysart and Dundonald, playing under the leadership
of both Jim Murray and then Brian Lamond and along side fellow
WAPOL player Jock Roarty. During this time the band featured
in the top 6 of many major competitions.
Craig eventually gave up piping for around 8 years and after
moving to Perth in Jan 2008, hadn`t even seen his pipes for
some time before Jock convinced him to dust them off and join
WAPOL as a guest player in April 2009. Craig is looking forward
to playing with WAPOL and hopefully using his previous grade
1 experience to help in the development of the band.
