Morag Roarty
Tenor Drummer
Morag started learning the tenor drum at the age of 11 with
Gleneagles Strathearn Pipe Band, where she competed for seven
years and won best bass section in Grade 3 at the Cowal Championships.
She also went on to the Vale, playing bass in Grade 3 under
the leadership of Pipe Major Sharon Kelly and Lead Drummer
John Moneagle, where she won the Worlds and became a Champion
of Champions in Grade 3. She spent another year playing bass
in Grade 2 then she progressed to the Grade 1 band playing
tenor drum. Morag played tenor for six years with the Grade
1 band under Paul Turner and Ian Sinclair. The bass sections
won the best bass section numerous times at different championships.
It was during these years that she met Jock. Jock and Morag
are very excited about making the move to Perth to play with
WAPOL and hope that their previous G1 experience can help
progress the development of the band. They are taking a trip
back to Scotland in September to get married.
