Morag Roarty

Tenor Drummer

Morag started learning the tenor drum at the age of 11 with Gleneagles Strathearn Pipe Band, where she competed for seven years and won best bass section in Grade 3 at the Cowal Championships. She also went on to The Vale, playing bass in Grade 3 under the leadership of Sharon Kelly and Lead Drummer John Moneagle, where she won the Worlds and become Champion of Champions in Grade 3. She spent another year playing bass in Grade 2 then she progressed to the Grade 1 band playing tenor drum. Morag played tenor for six years with The Vale in Grade 1 band under the leadership of Paul Turner and Ian Sinclair. The bass section won the best bass section award on numerous occasions at various championships.

Further to the competition experience, she was also involved in many of the concerts that The Vale performed at, including the sell out “pre-worlds concert” at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
